One of the benefits of being an OAK member is membership in BJ's
Club. OAK is a member of BJ's Wholesale Club. We've been shopping there for the past 6 years and have saved huge amounts
of money. As an example, beef ribs, $2.69 at Publix, were 1.99 at
BJ's. Same quality. The same went for steaks, chicken, pork.
And the packages are not outrageously large. Any one person can be a member and buy for one or more friends, relatives,
etc. The regular member price is
$50.00. If you wish to be a BJ's member at the 50% discount, it will cost OAK paid
(full) Members $27.50 and OAK non-paid (associate) members $30.00. A paid
member has paid the $10.00 annual dues. The Membership period is February
1 2011, thru January 31, 2012. You are eligible to become a BJ's member
until April 1, 2011. Make a check payable to me - Jordan London. I do not have a personal
account with Paypal, so use of Paypal is not available. I will combine all
checks and send one check to BJ's in the name of Outdoor Adventures Klub of
South Florida, Inc., with a list of each member. I will deposit your check
in my personal account (the bank will not accept third-party endorsement); issue
a check to BJ's for the correct amount, and another check to OAK for the
overage. The overage will go to the OAK club treasury. Send your
check to Jordan London, 5521 Polk Street, Hollywood, FL
33021. Since I will be renewing by mail, you will have to got
to any store to get your Membership card. Any questions, you can reach me at 954-961-8286 or jordanlondon1@bellsouth.net.

We are traveling on Holland America’s
Westerdam, one of the newest cruise ships. Its appointments and amenities are luxury personified. We will leave Saturday, May 21st at
approximately 6:45 AM from Fort Lauderdale, and arrive back on Saturday, May 28th
(actually, Sunday at about 12:06 AM).
Since we’re off on Sunday and Monday, timing is good. With that, you can
arrive a couple of days early in Seattle or leave a couple of days later from
Seattle and take the time to look around and enjoy the city and
environment. Prices depend on what
kind of shipboard accommodation you choose, as always. We’re using U.S. Airways, and it’s
costing us approximately $600. round trip per person.Holland American enjoys a magnificent reputation and
so far no one I have spoken with has anything negative to say about it. They have supplied me with a personal cruise
consultant who is extremely knowledgeable and able to answer any questions (so
far).
Upon receipt of your check
made payable to OAK, 5521 Polk street, Hollywood, FL 33021, for a deposit of
$300.00, which includes a non-refundable contribution to OAK, I will supply you with the name and
phone number of this consultant. In the meantime, I refer you to the web site, hollandamerica.com. Any
questions, please phone me at 954-961-8286 or e-mail me at jordanlondon1@bellsouth.net. Please keep checking back for details.

OAK is devoted to the outdoors, concentrating its efforts in South
Florida.
One of our focuses is on giving to the community as volunteers.
In the past, we worked at Deerfield Island, Florida helping to clear
Australian Pine
trees and plant new vegetation. We worked at the John U. Lloyd Park
clearing
Australian Pines and planting new trees as well. We even transplanted a
live
oak, and it was named after the Klub, "OAK’s oak". Kind of corny, but we
liked
it. After that project, we worked at John U. Lloyd maintaining and
cleaning the
roadways.
Next, we maintained the trails, laid down new mulch and removed
unwanted
and/or dangerous vegetation at Secret Woods County Park.
We are now volunteering for the County and the City of Wilton Manors, Florida.
We
remove trash along a mile of N.E. 15th/16th Avenues between the south
bridge at
the Colohatchee Park and the north bridge just above 26th
Street. Our
volunteers perform this job every two-three months. The County provides
us with
gloves, bright fluorescent vests, long pick-up tongs, street signs and
barriers.
We work only in the swale, never in the street.
Recently, the Wilton Manors Board of Commissioners recognized OAK in a
formal
ceremony for the work we do (a copy of the Certificate of Appreciation
is
appended in our Photos Section).
No one is standing there applauding us as we work, although various
motorists
do signify their appreciation by gentle honking of the horn and
pedestrians
compliment us for our efforts. Afterward, to maintain our bond, we go
for brunch
at a local restaurant, usually Peter Pan on Oakland Park Boulevard. |
